The main resort and cultural centre of the Pongau region is a resort rich in tradition, with a great deal of atmosphere. The town, also a pupular shopping centre, has approx. 10.400 inhabitants and offers centrally located accomodation of all categories for over 1.200 guests. St. Johann is a lively and interesting winter sports resort. The majority of accomodation in the town centre are stops for the ski-shuttle which takes you free of charge to the access points.

Alpendorf

The part of town named Alpendorf is very different from the resort in general. Alpendorf is for the most part an independent "holiday oasis" with over 1.800 beds for holiday guests in mainly higher categories. Approx. 3 km from the town centre of Sankt Johann, situated at an altitude of 800 m at the foot of the Gernkogel ski mountain (1,787 m).

Alpendorf is not only an insider tip as top access point for Salzburg's Sportwelt, or the "Ski amadé". Modern gondolas and chairlifts bring you up in a great ski resort. 3 well organized ski- and snowboard schools, ski kindergarten and a funpark for all freestylers, ski rental,  bars, Aprés ski, cosy hut evenings and illuminated toboggan rides round off the varied range offered by the holiday oasis, Alpendorf.
